Michael DavisMy wife is very sensitive to the smell of food. She cannot eat a lot of foods because of the smell. I have looked at every website and there is no information out there. What do you recommend my wife eats so that she will feel less sick?
June 6, 2017 at 8:47 AM #222Hi, Michael! I would suggest trying frozen foods. They do not have as much of a scent, so your wife will likely feel a lot less nauseous. Low-calorie popsicles and ice cream can be good options. Cold soups such as gazpacho, svekolnik (beet soup), and tarator (cucumber soup) will also work. 🙂

Lemon and ginger can also keep nausea at bay, so I would suggest incorporating those into your wife’s meals. Additionally, though it may sound strange, eating sauerkraut would be extremely helpful in preventing your wife from feeling sick!June 21, 2017 at 1:29 PM #219

June 21, 2017 at 4:57 PM #225Hi, Jackie! Anything raw should be treated carefully. I would avoid raw eggs, fish, shellfish, and meat. Unpasteurized dairy products (which include certain cheeses) should also be omitted from your diet, and so should things like pâté . Foods such as these may contain harmful bacteria that can threaten your health.
August 10, 2017 at 11:48 PM #186What foods should be avoided with breast cancer?
August 12, 2017 at 12:40 PM #210Hi, Natasha! The foods to avoid are ones that are rich in sugar, sodium, and saturated/trans fats. An excessive quantity of carbohydrates is never healthy, and for some people it actually increases the risk of cancer. It is also important to limit red/processed meat consumption, since these foods are also carcinogenic and usually high in salt, fat, cholesterol, etc. Instead, choose lean meat or fish, fresh leafy produce, and lots of liquid foods like soup. Feel free to take a look at the list of healthy foods or recipes in the navigation bar above. Hope this is helpful!

TamaIs going dairy-free a good idea while you’re on chemo?
September 4, 2017 at 3:32 PM #231Hi, Tama! Though some people believe that consuming dairy increases the risk of cancer, there is no definitive evidence to support this. Milk products are very healthy for you, since they are a good source of protein, calcium, and vitamins, so it is best if you do not avoid them. If you are worried about the fat content, you can try buying low-fat options of dairy products. If you still want to avoid dairy, make sure to get your calcium from other sources, such as dark leafy greens, quinoa, canned fish with bones, or calcium supplements. Hope this helps you!

MironWhere I can buy buckwheat in LA?
October 1, 2017 at 9:05 PM #234Hi, Miron! Buckwheat is a great choice for chemo patients and can be found in “natural” stores (like Sprouts, for example). Also, if there are any national Eastern European stores near you, they will likely also sell buckwheat. 🙂

SofiaDoes consuming sugar increase the likelihood of cancer development?
December 5, 2017 at 6:39 PM #261Hi, Sofia! While sugar does not cause cancer to develop, it should still not be consumed in excessive quantities as it offers few health benefits and is not very nutritious. Hope this is helpful!
